On 7th December 2010, the Minister for Finance announced that significant changes would be made to the Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) system. It is expected that the current paper-based RCT system will be replaced on 1st January 2012 by an electronic system, where principal contractors will be obliged to engage with Revenue online (mandatory electronic communication). From that date, all contacts between a principal (or agent on behalf of the principal) and Revenue will be through an online process - all principals in the construction, forestry and meat processing sectors will be obliged to submit information, data, payments and returns to Revenue electronically.

The establishment of a single website to  support information provision and the State’s services across the employment, equality, equal status and industrial relations areas was one of a number of measures announced by Richard Bruton, T.D., Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in July, 2011 as part of his proposals to streamline and reform public service delivery in these important areas. 

The Website was launched on the 4th January 2012 and is an interim measure to gain an early single web presence and to support the phased replacement of all existing websites. While the websites of the Labour Relations Commission, National Employment Rights Authority, Employment Appeals Tribunal, the Labour Court and the Equality Tribunal will remain in place during the lifetime of this interim website they will be replaced in due course on the launch of the final Single Website for Workplace Relations.  Click here to redirect to the new website

The EU Directive on Temporary Agency Work Directive - 2008/104/EC - comes into effect in Ireland on 5 December, 2011. Legislation to transpose the Directive is being finalised and a Bill will be published shortly to give legislative effect to the Directive.  Hirers and Employment Agencies should make appropriate arrangements to ensure that equal treatment is put in place from 5 December, 2011 for all temporary agency workers, including those assigned on or after that date.
